Where to base yourself
Your choice of zone shapes your whole trip — how far you stumble home, what you pay, and how much sleep you actually get. Three broad areas to pick from.
The party beach itself. Staying here means you can stumble home from the Full Moon Party on foot — a huge advantage on the big night. The trade-off: it's the priciest area around full-moon dates, books out weeks ahead, and it's loud.
Best for: Big-night convenience, first-timers, short trips built around the FMP.
The south coast strip between Thong Sala and Haad Rin. Closest base for the Waterfall Festival, Jungle Experience and Half/Black Moon jungle venues, with more mid-range and budget options and an easy taxi to Haad Rin.
Best for: Doing the whole party cycle, better value, balance of access and calm.
Haad Yao, Haad Salad, Thong Nai Pan and the north/west beaches — calmer sands, wellness and yoga retreats, sunsets. Taxi to the party is longer and pricier, but you get to actually sleep and recover.
Best for: Longer stays, couples, anyone pairing the party with downtime.
